A Learning Experience

It was very hard to learn the dance for our video. For one, I’m not a dancer so learning the moves and with other people, most of whom are also not dancers, was very tough. We had only three people in our group that knew how to dance/create formations to make the dance look cohesive. Another thing that made it very hard for me and the rest of my group, it was hard to meet for practice with everyone's busy schedules (including my two friends that graciously joined us to add volume to our group). We could only meet once a week on Monday evenings for two hours. But because of this busy schedule we made sure to pick our song by the end of September and started meeting to practice within the first week of October. We finished learning the dance and formations a few days before we filmed the video. I personally also had trouble with dancing because of my foot/ankle issues, it caused a lot of pain, but I didn't want to let down the other members of my group. Filming the video was something that seemed easy in theory to most of us, but when actually filming it was complicated and time consuming. We practiced together one more time for an hour before filming, then filmed from 8pm until well after midnight. We filmed the whole dance we learned inside and outside at least ten times each and we filmed multiple individual parts to give the video more character and to seem more MV like. It was freezing outside when we filmed as well. This whole process gives me a deeper appreciation, more than I already did, of the blood, sweat and tears that idol groups pour into learning all the dances (sometimes choreographing) to their songs, filming the videos, the amount of time it takes to learn dances and film them quickly to be released for the fans. It was exhausting for us and we didn’t even learn the full dance to the song and didn’t take nearly as much time to film.
